Lincolnshire House provides day care services not only for the residents but also for individuals with disabilities from within Scunthorpe and the surrounding area. Day care is available from 9.30 am - 3.30 pm, Monday to Friday, 10.00 am - 3.00 pm on Saturday's with some activities taking place in the evenings and some Sunday's.. The day care service can, where required, involve one to one for an individual and can also include bathing and showering, alongside routine personal care.
The day care provided to nonresidents reflects the choice and needs of the individual service user. Some wish to attend each day, whilst others may come on certain days only. Initially a service user will be invited to attend the centre for an assessment day in order to ascertain their care needs and individual interests and wishes. When all parties are happy a fee is agreed which will be paid for either by the local authority or by the individual directly.
The day care provided to residents is also based on principle of choice. We endeavour to meet the needs and wishes of all residents which has to encompass a wide range of physical and mental abilities as well as a wide range of ages and interests. The activity staff, through their own knowledge and experience and in continuous discussion with service users provide a diverse and exciting programme of activities. They are constantly looking for new ideas and volunteers who can bring their own particular expertise into the programme.
The daily activities we undertake include arts and crafts (both for pleasure and to help with fund raising), baking, sewing, discussion groups, table and floor games, quizzes, a very popular health and beauty pampering session as well as music sessions, keep fit at the local gym and in the centre, ten pin bowling, indoor carpet bowls, swimming and IT.
Evening activities include a social evening, quizzes, discos, a photography club, a model railway club, domino tournaments and live musical entertainment from professional and amateur artists. We take groups to the theatre on a regular basis as well as new age kurling and other activities within the community. We also hold various fund raising events, these include fashion shows, horse racing nights and other theme nights. Residents and day service users are also encouraged to devise and undertake their own fund raising sessions with the support of key workers.
On Wednesday, during term time, we have a day of adult education for those individuals who wish to take part. Qualified teachers are in attendance who endeavour to assist service users to extend their abilities in numeracy and literacy in order to achieve certification levels. We also feel that where certification levels cannot be achieved individuals still require these educational sessions in order to maintain the level of skills that some may have.
A very popular section of the activities building is our Snoozelen Room. This room is ideal for relaxation. as well as visual stimulation using mobile projected displays, ultra violet light, bubble tubes and fibre optics. It also contains large bean bags, easy chairs, plastic padded floor mattress and an extremely popular ball pool. The whole room is accessible by an overhead hoist. A wall mounted CD player can be used to play relaxation disc's or other audio stimulation. This room is available for private hire and whilst individuals must be accompanied by their own carer's), our own staff are available to give assistance when required.
Our day care and activity staff are trained and motivated to respond to the needs and wishes of all our service users.
